San Michele complex hosts heritage events in Rome

The San Michele complex in Rome is hosting various events and initiatives in connection with the 2026 European Heritage Days. The theme for the upcoming celebrations is ‘Protecting heritage. Renew, resist, reinvent.’

As part of these celebrations, the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro (ICR) is presenting a renewed edition of the show ‘Restauro in scena. Arte, scienza, meraviglia’ featuring Alessandro Preziosi. The performance portrays Pasquale Rotondi, a historical superintendent known for his role in saving Italian artistic heritage during World War II. This initiative is accompanied by the #ProteggereIlPatrimonio social media campaign, launched by the Ministry of Culture and the ICR to promote the work of heritage preservation.

Additionally, the Istituto Centrale del Patrimonio Immateriale (ICPI) is collaborating on heritage walks at the San Michele site. These activities explore the historical relationship between the complex and its surrounding territory, including its history as a papal workshop and its evolution through various industrial and correctional functions.
