Heritage events at Rome San Michele complex

Overview

The San Michele complex in Rome is hosting various initiatives in connection with the 2026 European Heritage Days, centered on the theme ‘Protecting heritage. Renew, resist, reinvent.’

As part of these celebrations, the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro (ICR) is presenting a performance titled ‘Restauro in scena. Arte, scienza, meraviglia’ featuring Alessandro Preziosi. The show portrays Pasquale Rotondi, a historical superintendent recognized for his efforts to save Italian artistic heritage during World War II. This is supported by the #ProteggereIlPatrimonio social media campaign launched by the Ministry of Culture and the ICR.

Furthermore, the Istituto Centrale del Patrimonio Immateriale (ICPI) is conducting heritage walks at the site to explore the historical relationship between the complex and its territory, noting its history as a papal workshop and its subsequent industrial and correctional functions.
