Saltillo calls for Manuel Acuña award nominees, plans scooter infrastructure as governor reports July progress

The Saltillo municipal government announced a call for nominations for the 2026 Presea Manuel Acuña, a cultural award that recognises creators and promoters of art and culture in the city. Nominations must be submitted by 21 August 2026 to the municipal secretariat, either in person or via the city’s website. Eligible candidates must be Mexican, born in or residing in Saltillo for at least five continuous years, have not previously received the award, and must not be listed in state registries for violence against women or delinquent alimony debts. The prize will be presented in November by the Instituto Municipal de Cultura.

The city’s director of the Instituto Municipal de Movilidad Urbana Sustentable, Víctor de la Rosa Molina, said Saltillo lacks sidewalks and road surfaces suitable for electric scooters. He noted that the municipality will factor these deficiencies into forthcoming regulations and plans to prioritise scooter traffic on dedicated bike‑lane networks as they are built.

State Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas highlighted July achievements for Coahuila, noting the continuation of the Saltillo‑Derramadero road project, the delivery of property deeds to families, the inauguration of the Guidova vineyard in Arteaga, the start of GEMMSA operations, and the opening of Penta Park Laguna. He also celebrated Saltillo’s 449th anniversary and its ranking as the third‑safest city in Mexico.
