San Siro stadium sale faces legal challenge in Milan

A legal challenge has been filed to declare the sale of the San Siro stadium in Milan null and void. An act of summons, promoted by a citizen and transcribed in real estate registries, questions the validity of the deed signed by the Municipality of Milan.

The dispute centers on a five-day window regarding architectural protections. The Municipality completed the sale on November 5, 2025, just five days before the stadium's second tier was set to reach 70 years of age. Under the Cultural Heritage Code, reaching this age threshold would have triggered a mandatory verification for public cultural assets.

While there is currently no seizure or order prohibiting construction, the lawsuit creates significant uncertainty for the owners, Stadio San Siro spa (the joint entity for Inter and Milan). Any future renovations or construction projects must now account for this legal challenge, which alleges the sale was rushed to prevent the stadium from falling under cultural heritage protections.
