Sana'a Airport Closure Labeled Humanitarian Crime by Yemen and UN Rights Panel

Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana’a maintains that reopening Sana’a International Airport is a sovereign right and accuses the Saudi-led regime of obstructing a previously agreed roadmap, branding Saudi actions as a collective punishment that deepens the country’s humanitarian crisis.

The National Human Rights Commission says the airport’s continued shutdown, in place for about 11 years, constitutes a continuous humanitarian crime and a violation of international humanitarian law, depriving more than 30 million Yemenis of essential travel for medical treatment, education and family reunification. The commission urges the United Nations and relevant international bodies to demand the airport’s immediate reopening without political or military conditions, holding the responsible parties accountable for the ongoing suffering of civilians.
