Sanaa human rights report documents 3,219 Houthi violations

A human rights report titled ‘Memory of Pain’ has documented 3,219 violations committed by Houthi forces against civilians in the Amanat Al-Asimah governorate, including Sanaa, during 2024 and 2025.

The report, issued by the Human Rights Office in Amanat Al-Asimah, details 14 patterns of abuse. These include 105 cases of extrajudicial killings—comprising 71 direct killings and 34 deaths resulting from torture—as well as 483 cases of kidnapping and enforced disappearance. Other documented abuses include 135 instances of torture, 307 political trials, and 39 death sentences issued against activists and opponents.

Data shows an upward trend in violations, rising from 1,537 in 2024 to 1,682 in 2025, a 9.4% increase. The report also highlights 299 violations against children, 102 against women, 382 cases of arbitrary job dismissal, and 302 instances of looting or attacks on property. Additionally, the report notes an escalation in targeting United Nations and international humanitarian workers through arrests, kidnappings, and the seizure of organizational premises.

Fahmi Al-Zubairi, Director General of the Human Rights Office, stated that the figures represent only the cases the office was able to access and verify, and may not encompass the full scale of violations. He called on the international community to ensure accountability and protect civilians.
