Houthi militia violations in Yemen

A July 2026 human‑rights report documented 163 cases of kidnapping, arbitrary detention and forced disappearance carried out by Houthi militia against United Nations staff, aid workers, journalists and diplomatic personnel since 2014. The report described these abductions as part of a systematic policy aimed at intimidating the international community and undermining humanitarian operations.

A second report released later in July 2026 expanded the focus to the health sector, recording more than 6,200 Houthi violations from January 2020 to July 2026. The abuses included killings, injuries, forced detentions, disappearances, and extensive attacks on hospitals, clinics and pharmacies—over 1,200 incidents of closure, raid, bombing or destruction, plus looting of ambulances and seizure of drug stores. The report also highlighted the dismissal of medical staff and salary withholding for tens of thousands of health workers.

Together, the two reports show a continued pattern of Houthi‑directed intimidation and violence against both humanitarian personnel and essential civilian services, deepening the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and prompting calls for international condemnation and accountability.
