Sanaa issues diplomatic memos to UN and international community regarding Yemen

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sanaa has issued urgent official memos to the United Nations Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly, the UN Security Council, the European Union, and the UN Special Envoy to Yemen. These documents aim to brief the international community on the latest political and field developments in Yemen.

The memos review the consequences of the ongoing blockade and military actions since March 2015, which have contributed to a humanitarian crisis described as one of the most severe globally. The communications highlight the destruction of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, airports, and service facilities.

Regarding the political track, Sanaa emphasized its positive engagement with previous negotiations in Geneva, Bile, Kuwait, and Stockholm, as well as the 2023 roadmap mediated by Oman. The ministry reiterated demands for humanitarian priorities, specifically the opening of Sanaa International Airport and Al Hudaydah port, and the payment of civil servant salaries from national resources.

The documents also address recent field escalations, including strikes on Sanaa airport in July and incidents in Al-Jawf in September. Sanaa stated that the continued blockade has led its armed forces to implement a “blockade by blockade” policy, including maritime navigation restrictions, to lift economic and humanitarian constraints. The ministry expressed a commitment to a just and comprehensive peace and the protection of international maritime security.
