Sanaa presidential palace security breach targets Houthi leader

A significant security breach occurred at the presidential palace in Sanaa on September 21, targeting high-ranking Houthi military leader Brigadier General Mohammed Abdullah Abu Mahdi, also known as ‘Mohammed al-Mahdi’. Reports indicate the operation involved a cyberattack on a Houthi operations room near Jabal al-Nahdayn, followed hours later by a drone strike on a private vehicle as the leader attempted to leave the palace area. The current status of al-Mahdi remains unconfirmed.

Simultaneously, military developments show Yemeni Armed Forces making gains across several fronts. In Taiz and Lahj, government-aligned forces have reclaimed various positions, including areas in the Shara'a region and Al-Bazla. In Marib, Houthi logistics official Fouad al-Mahdi was reportedly killed in an airstrike along with four aides. Additionally, drone strikes targeted Houthi military gatherings and artillery positions in Al-Jawf.

In response to the shifting security landscape, the Yemeni Ministry of Interior stated that armed forces are achieving victories on multiple fronts, despite challenges posed by Houthi control over strategic coastal areas like Mocha and Bab al-Mandab.
