Sancti Spíritus restores mammography services via equipment donation

The Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, is set to restore mammography services after a hiatus of more than two years. The previous equipment became inoperable due to technical failures and a lack of available replacement parts.

During the service gap, patients were forced to travel to Villa Clara, where only five weekly appointments were available. This created significant logistical and financial burdens for the more than 100 patients per week who require breast-related consultations at the Sancti Spíritus facility. Medical staff had to prioritize cases based on urgency and risk levels.

A new MAMMOMAT 3000 Nova machine has arrived in the province via a donation managed by the association CubaSí and German collaborators. While the equipment is on-site, it is not yet operational; installation and the setup of image processing components are expected to take approximately one month.
