Sanctuaries in Pumenengo and Rudiano targeted in sacred thefts

Two religious sanctuaries in the Brescia region were targeted by thieves during the night between August 12 and August 13, 2026. The Santuario della Rotonda in Pumenengo and the Santuario della Madonna in Pratis in Rudiano were both broken into.

In both locations, perpetrators forced entry and stole sacred items, including chalices, jewelry, and tabernacles. Most notably, the thieves stole consecrated hosts, and some were found scattered on the floor.

Investigators are considering a possible link to ritualistic or satanic activities, given the specific nature of the stolen items and the timing near the Feast of the Assumption. Authorities are currently treating the incident as a serious case of religious profanation.
