Sanesul expands sewage infrastructure in Dourados and Bonito, Brazil

Sanesul, the state water and waste utility of Mato Grosso do Sul, announced a total investment of about R$ 53 million to expand sewage collection and treatment in the cities of Dourados and Bonito. In Dourados the company will spend R$ 27.17 million over 24 months to extend the collector network, add household connections in the Exposição and Monte Carlo neighborhoods, build a new raw‑sewage lifting station and enlarge the Ipê treatment plant.

In Bonito a separate R$ 26 million project will redirect the discharge from the local treatment plant away from the Rio Formoso basin to the larger Rio Miranda basin. The 22‑km pipeline will move treated effluent to a new outfall, protecting the Rio Formoso and supporting the town’s tourism‑driven economy.

Both projects are funded by Sanesul’s own resources and are aligned with the state government’s goal of achieving universal sewage coverage before the national 2033 deadline. Officials highlighted the expected benefits for public health, environmental preservation and sustainable urban development.
