Sanitary authorities conduct food safety inspections in Argentina and Ecuador

Health authorities in Argentina and Ecuador have conducted significant sanitary interventions to address food safety risks. In Córdoba, Argentina, officials from SENASA and the Rural Patrol inspected pig farms in Colonia San Bartolomé following reports of Trichinella spiralis (trichinosis) cases. The inspections revealed that several establishments lacked the necessary documentation for animal ownership and commercialization. Consequently, the movement of 200 pigs has been restricted, and authorities have mandated that the animals be slaughtered only in authorized meat processing plants.

In Guayaquil, Ecuador, the National Agency for Regulation, Control, and Sanitary Surveillance (Arcsa) temporarily closed an unauthorized sausage factory operating out of a residence in Monte Sinaí. The inspection, which began after tracing products sold on public streets, uncovered severe sanitary violations. Findings included the presence of cockroaches, blood, meat, and fat residues on floors and equipment, as well as corroded refrigeration units and inadequate ventilation. The facility lacked the required sanitary permits for food production.
