Sanitaservice workers face job risks amid Puglia emergency service concerns

Labor unions in Puglia are raising alarms regarding the future of emergency medical services (118) in the province of Foggia. Specifically, 108 workers employed by Sanitaservice ASL Foggia, who provide auxiliary and support services for the 118 emergency system, face contract expirations by September 30, 2026.

Unions including FP CGIL and FP CISL warn that losing these staff members could trigger an employment and organizational crisis. They note that the company is already facing personnel shortages, necessitating frequent overtime to maintain coverage. The unions are calling on the Puglia Region and ASL Foggia management to ensure service continuity and resolve suspended competitive selection procedures.

Additionally, the Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) has expressed concern that regional healthcare deficits might lead to a reduction in emergency-urgency services. There are fears that territorial stations in areas such as Manfredonia, Cerignola, Torremaggiore, Vico del Gargano, and Vieste could be scaled back, potentially increasing response times in geographically challenging or peripheral areas.
