Maharashtra political tensions rise amid threats and election concerns
Political tensions in Maharashtra have escalated following allegations by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut regarding a threat made by state minister Gulabrao Patil. Raut claimed Patil warned that anyone opposing Eknath Shinde’s bid for the Chief Minister position would be ‘wiped out’. Raut challenged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to address these remarks, comparing the cabinet's conduct to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Separately, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has renewed his demand for a return to ballot paper voting to ensure election transparency. Thackeray questioned the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and warned that public anger over various issues could lead to nationwide protests and significant political turmoil in the coming months.
Additionally, Sanjay Raut has called on Chief Minister Fadnavis to freeze a data centre project in Thane. Raut cited concerns regarding environmental impacts, resource depletion, and potential strain on local water and electricity infrastructure, demanding a comprehensive state-level policy and public access to all regulatory approvals.
