Allegations regarding Hardeep Singh Puri and Jeffrey Epstein

Overview

Political controversy has emerged in India following the circulation of purported photographs on social media showing Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri with Jeffrey Epstein.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut challenged the minister’s previous denials of meeting Epstein, citing information from the U.S. Department of Justice and the release of Epstein files. Raut questioned the nature of any such meeting and whether the minister was acting on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Congress party has intensified its criticism, with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi questioning the timing of the photograph’s release in relation to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Mumbai. Gandhi raised concerns regarding potential blackmail. Additionally, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal criticized the Prime Minister for inaction and suggested the controversy could impact India-US trade discussions.
