Sanlúcar horse races return for second seasonal cycle

The historic horse races of Sanlúcar are entering their second cycle of the season. As the oldest horse racing tradition in Spain, dating back to 1845, the events are uniquely dictated by the tides.

The races take place on the beach near the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, utilizing the wide expanse of wet, compacted sand revealed during low tide. This creates a temporary racetrack that disappears once the tide returns. The current season includes major events such as the Grandes Premios de Andalucía and Ciudad de Sanlúcar.
