Sanlúcar joins Ecovidrio's Banderas Verdes glass recycling drive

The municipality of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, together with the non‑profit Ecovidrio and local hospitality businesses, has re‑joined the “Banderas Verdes” (Green Flags) movement for the summer. The campaign, now in its seventh edition, rewards coastal towns that improve the selective collection of glass containers in bars, restaurants and other venues during the peak tourist season.

More than 120 municipalities across Spain – including 45 in Andalusia – are participating this year. organisers aim to boost recycling rates, reduce waste and promote a circular economy by encouraging proper separation of glass waste generated by the hospitality sector, which accounts for a large share of summer disposable glass consumption. Sanlúcar’s environmental delegate, Carmen Pozo, highlighted the town’s commitment to cleaner streets and sustainable practices.
