Sanrio celebrates Pompompurin 30th anniversary with retro goods and hotel collaboration

Sanrio is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its character Pompompurin with a series of commemorative events and product launches. Starting August 27, 2026, the company will release the ‘That Era Pompompurin Design Series,’ which features 16 different items designed to replicate the retro aesthetic and textures of the character’s original 1996 merchandise. The lineup includes plush toys, mascot holders, bags, and stationery.

To mark the occasion, 37 Sanrio shops across Japan will host anniversary pop-up stores featuring limited-edition goods and photo spots.

Additionally, Hotel New Otani Hakata has announced a special collaboration accommodation plan to celebrate the anniversary. Available for stays between October and December 2026, the plan includes exclusive 30th-anniversary themed items such as card keys, water bottles, and bucket hats. The hotel also offers themed rooms and unique regional merchandise, including Hakata-ori pouches and Imabari towels.
