Sant Antoni officials debate water use at private Ibiza event

The Sant Antoni de Portmany City Council has addressed the controversy surrounding a private Egyptian-themed party held on August 13 at the Sa Pedrera quarry in Can Coix. The event, hosted by promoter Van Wyck & Van Wyck for approximately 350 guests, featured large-scale structures including an eight-meter pyramid, temples, and obelisks.

A central point of contention is the use of water to create an artificial lake during a period of drought and water restrictions in the municipality. While organizers claim they used less than 60 tons of water, residents report that up to 170 tons may have been required. Local residents have expressed concerns regarding the environmental impact on the rustic terrain and the fire risk posed by the massive installation in a high-risk forest zone.

During a municipal plenary session, the PSOE opposition presented a motion for control with 15 questions regarding the administrative processing of the event. They raised concerns about noise limits, self-protection plans, and whether municipal technical services reviewed plans that identified a water surface. Mayor Marcos Serra denied any lack of transparency in the authorization, while Urbanism Councilor Eva Prats stated the council was unaware real water would be used for the lake, as it was not specified in the descriptive memory. The council is now studying the possibility of sanctions.
