Sant Antoni private event controversy

The Sant Antoni de Portmany City Council is investigating a controversy involving a large-scale, Egyptian-themed private party held on August 13 at the Sa Pedrera quarry. The event, hosted by promoter Van Wyck & Van Wyck for approximately 300 to 500 guests, featured massive structures such as an eight-meter pyramid and temples.

A primary dispute involves the use of water to create an artificial lake during a period of drought and municipal water restrictions. While organizers claim they used less than 60 tons of water, residents suggest the amount may have reached 170 tons. Local residents have also raised concerns regarding the environmental impact on rustic terrain and the fire risk posed by the installation in a high-risk forest zone.

Political tension has escalated as the PSOE opposition has raised questions regarding noise limits, self-protection plans, and administrative transparency. While Mayor Marcos Serra denied a lack of transparency, Urbanism Councilor Eva Prats stated the council was unaware real water would be used for the lake, as it was not specified in the descriptive memory. The council is currently studying potential sanctions.
