Costa Rica launches national cultural programs for Children’s Day

Costa Rica is launching extensive cultural initiatives to celebrate Children’s Day throughout September 2026. The Ministry of Culture and Youth (MCJ) has implemented a month-long program that utilizes libraries, museums, and cultural centers nationwide to provide free artistic, musical, and theatrical experiences.

A key component of this strategy is decentralization, ensuring that families in rural and coastal regions such as Limón, Puntarenas, and Guanacaste have equitable access to high-quality programming beyond the Metropolitan Area.

In Santa Ana, the local government is hosting a free community festival on September 12, 2026, aimed at reclaiming public spaces and promoting family integration. Legal experts note that such large-scale municipal events must adhere to strict safety protocols and child protection mandates established by the National Children’s Trust (PANI).

Additionally, the Paseo de las Flores shopping center in Heredia is hosting the ‘Paseo Mágico’ event, offering free magic shows, juggling, and face painting for families.
