Children’s Day celebrations in Costa Rica

Various regions in Costa Rica are organizing activities to celebrate Children’s Day. In the Escazú area, shopping centers such as Avenida Escazú, Lincoln Plaza, Aleste, and Terrazas Lindora are hosting workshops, music, entrepreneurship fairs, and themed activities. In San Carlos, the El Encuentro shopping center has scheduled a festive agenda including magic shows and circus performances.

To expand celebrations nationwide, the Ministry of Culture and Youth (MCJ) has implemented a month-long program for September 2026. This initiative utilizes libraries, museums, and cultural centers to provide free artistic, musical, and theatrical experiences. A central strategy of this program is decentralization, aiming to ensure families in rural and coastal regions, including Limón, Puntarenas, and Guanacaste, have equitable access to programming outside the Metropolitan Area.

In Heredia, the Paseo de las Flores shopping center is hosting the ‘Paseo Mágico’ event, featuring free magic shows, juggling, and face painting. Meanwhile, the municipality of Santa Ana continues preparations for its free community festival on September 12, 2026. This event is part of a broader strategy in the San José province to use public space activation for social development and crime prevention. Organizers must adhere to strict safety and privacy protocols mandated by the National Children’s Trust (PANI).
