Santa Catarina deputy proposes honoring police officers involved in candidate incident

State Deputy Sargento Lima (PL) has proposed a motion of applause to the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina to honor two Military Police corporals involved in an incident in Jaraguá do Sul. The officers, Rafaela Natália Branco and Clovis Kaue Weber, were involved in an encounter where Fernanda Klitzke, a lawyer and PT Senate substitute candidate, was reportedly kicked and struck with rubber bullets.

The deputy's proposal justifies the honor by citing the officers' “relevant services rendered to the community of Jaraguá do Sul,” claiming Corporal Weber maintained technical conduct despite resistance. However, the incident, which began following a noise complaint, has drawn sharp criticism from left-wing lawmakers Luciane Carminatti (PT) and Carolline Sardá (PSOL).

The PT caucus has submitted a formal request for information to Governor Jorginho Mello, the General Command of the PM-SC, and the Public Security Secretariat. The inquiry seeks clarification on command logistics, the use of force and ammunition, and whether the officers were equipped with body cameras. A vote on the proposed motion was postponed due to a lack of quorum.
