Americanas judicial recovery process officially ends

A court in Rio de Janeiro has decreed the end of the judicial recovery process for Grupo Americanas. The decision, issued by the 4th Business Court, recognizes that the retail group has fulfilled the obligations set forth in its restructuring plan.

The recovery process began in January 2023 following the discovery of approximately R$ 20 billion in accounting inconsistencies. At the time, the company reported debts of roughly R$ 43 billion. The restructuring plan was approved by creditors in December 2023 and ratified by the court in February 2024.

While the ruling allows the company to remove the “in judicial recovery” designation from its official records, Judge Arthur Eduardo Magalhães Ferreira noted that the decision does not prevent creditors from seeking legal recourse or bankruptcy if they believe obligations under the plan have been breached. The company stated that this conclusion marks an important milestone and begins a new stage for its business operations.
