Santa Catarina weather: Guaramirim recovers from floods as cold front approaches
The municipality of Guaramirim is seeing a normalization of conditions following intense rainfall. The Rio Itapocu, which rose 3.22 meters above normal levels during the early hours of Wednesday, has begun to recede, measuring approximately 2.40 meters above normal as of the morning.
Local authorities reported several incidents caused by the rain, including soil landslides and fallen trees that affected telephone networks. While a viaduct remained closed due to accumulated water, power services were restored after a fallen pole in Morro do Satuca. No residential damage has been recorded so far, and services at the ESF Avaí health unit have resumed.
Meteorological forecasts indicate continued instability across Santa Catarina. A low-pressure area combined with an advancing cold front is expected to bring storms and instability, particularly in the western region of the state. Forecasters warn of potential strong storms and instability lines through Thursday and into the weekend.
