Santa Clara Monastery projects advance in Pontevedra and Seville
Restoration efforts are underway for the historic Santa Clara sites in both Pontevedra and Seville. In Pontevedra, a project to recover the historic gardens of the former Santa Clara convent has been launched with a tender budget of 821,555 euros. The initiative aims to open approximately 4,500 square meters of green space to the public by 2027, following a landscaping and functional conditioning plan. The works include restoring the vegetal structure, recovering fruit trees and historical trellises, and improving accessibility and pedestrian paths.
In Seville, the municipal Urbanism and Environment Management (GUMA) has issued technical specifications for archaeological assistance services at the Real Monasterio de Santa Clara. This phase focuses on the Sala de Profundis and its annexed dwellings. The intervention follows the 2022 Master Plan for the monument, which covers nearly 11,949 square meters and includes the remains of the former Palace of Don Fadrique. The archaeological tasks will involve stratigraphic testing and the analysis of wall structures and subsoil to ensure the conservation of the site's historical heritage.
