Santa Cruz de la Sierra advances municipal charter and social services plans

The Municipal Council of Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia has begun socializing a proposal for a Municipal Organic Charter, aiming for approval by December. This initiative seeks to strengthen municipal autonomy, define the competencies of local authorities, and establish guidelines for urban planning and development, ending a 16-year stalemate. The process includes visits to 15 districts to gather public input and includes proposals such as the creation of the Cruceño Institute of Statistics and Planning.

In a separate development regarding social services, a municipal strategic plan for 2026-2030 has been approved to reinforce proximity-based care for vulnerable populations. The plan focuses on nine strategic areas, including homelessness, addiction, disability, childhood and family, and elderly care, aiming to improve coordination and modernize municipal management through participatory diagnosis and impact indicators.
