Santa Cruz de la Sierra municipal governance and security

Overview

In Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, local authorities have focused on enhancing citizen security and administrative autonomy. The municipality has allocated approximately Bs 5 million annually to support police operations, including the acquisition of vehicles, motorcycles, and computing equipment, alongside securing fuel supplies for neighborhood patrols. Efforts have also included operations to recover public spaces and identify locations where stolen goods are allegedly sold.

Concurrently, the Municipal Council has initiated a process to approve a Municipal Organic Charter, intended to strengthen municipal autonomy and define local authority competencies after a 16-year stalemate. This process involves public consultation across 15 districts. Additionally, a strategic plan for 2026-2030 has been approved to modernize municipal management and reinforce social services for vulnerable populations, focusing on areas such as homelessness, addiction, and elderly care.
