Santa Cruz housing program reaches 900 registrations amid transparency concerns

The Santa Cruz provincial government has reached 900 registrations for its new housing diagnostic program, ‘Construir Santa Cruz’. Marcelo De La Torre, president of the Urban and Housing Development Institute (IDUV), stated that the initiative, launched by Governor Claudio Vidal, aims to create an updated assessment of housing needs across the province, regardless of whether residents own land.

De La Torre noted that registration is progressing well, with higher numbers in Río Gallegos compared to the interior, and significant participation in Cañadón Seco. The government plans to conduct a statistical analysis of these requirements by late August or early September to inform future housing policies.

However, the program has faced criticism regarding the transparency of the housing allocation process. Concerns have been raised that the established scoring system used by IDUV may be bypassed, with allegations that individuals with lower scores or those not officially registered have been included in housing delivery processes.
