Santa Fe penitentiary school cadets released amid abuse investigation
Seven cadets from the Santa Fe Penitentiary School No. 7 ‘Marcos Sánchez’ were released from custody on Friday following a judicial ruling. The suspects, aged between 18 and 29, face accusations of sexual abuse and physical assault against a 19-year-old classmate.
During a hearing in the provincial capital, Prosecutor Jorgelina Moser Ferro requested preventive detention, citing evidence of aggravated sexual abuse and injuries. However, the judge rejected the request for imprisonment, allowing the accused to remain free while the investigation continues. As alternative measures, the seven individuals must establish a legal residence and are strictly prohibited from contacting the victim.
During their statements, the cadets denied direct participation in the attack, though their testimonies contained significant contradictions; some claimed to have heard the incident, while others denied hearing or seeing anything. The victim has expressed deep fear of potential retaliation.
