Santa Maria da Feira Medieval Fair Turns 30 as Silves Hosts 21st Edition

The Viagem Medieval in Santa Maria da Feira, the largest medieval reenactment in Europe, runs until 9 August and offers up to 96 daily performances. The festival marks its 30th anniversary and recreates historical disputes between D. Teresa and D. Afonso Henriques.

From 7 to 15 August, the 21st Feira Medieval de Silves celebrates the theme “Xilb, city of poets and sages,” honoring the medieval Islamic heritage of the town. More than a hundred exhibitors present crafts, music, dance and theater, while a daily medieval procession and banquets at the Alcáçova bring visitors into the atmosphere of the historic city.

Both events attract thousands of tourists to Portugal, highlighting the country’s cultural heritage and boosting local economies.
