Medieval festivals in Iberia 2026

In late July 2026, a series of medieval-recreation events unfolded across Portugal and Spain. The Portuguese town of Castro Marim announced its Days Medieval (26–30 August), featuring tournaments, markets, and performances by groups from Italy, Spain, Morocco, and France. Simultaneously, the nearby Spanish village of Manzaneque scheduled a three-day Manzanech Medieval (31 July–2 August), aimed at boosting the rural economy and preserving local heritage.

Two days later, Portugal’s long-standing Viagem Medieval in Santa Maria da Feira, the continent’s largest medieval reenactment, entered its 30th anniversary with up to 96 daily shows. At the same time, Silves launched its 21st Feira Medieval (7–15 August), celebrating its Islamic medieval legacy with crafts, music, and daily processions. Both festivals attracted thousands of tourists, underscoring a broader push to leverage medieval culture for cultural tourism and regional development throughout the Iberian Peninsula.

Following its conclusion in early August, organizers of the Viagem Medieval in Santa Maria da Feira declared the 30th anniversary an "absolute success." The milestone event provided a significant boost to the local economy, specifically benefiting the commerce and restaurant sectors. Local officials credited the high visitor turnout and successful commemorative performances to collaborative efforts between the Municipal Chamber, Feira Viva, and the Federation of Collectivities.

Together, these events illustrate a coordinated summer push of historical-festival programming, linking multiple municipalities in Portugal and extending into Spain, each emphasizing heritage preservation, economic stimulus, and cross-border cultural exchange.
