Santa Maria in Camurano church reopens in Montelparo

The Church of Santa Maria in Camurano in Montelparo has officially reopened to the community following extensive repairs necessitated by the 2016 earthquake. The restoration project, managed by the Diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto-Ripatransone-Montalto, was funded with 340,000 euros under a 2020 reconstruction ordinance.

The structural interventions addressed damage to the masonry, the triumphal arch, and the apse, as well as issues with the roof and water infiltration. Work also included the consolidation of the groin vault and the reinforcement of the building to reduce future vulnerabilities.

Extraordinary Reconstruction Commissioner Guido Castelli noted that the reopening is a concrete result of the reconstruction efforts, emphasizing that restoring a church provides a community with a vital space for faith, memory, and social identity. This marks the second church reopening in Montelparo within a twelve-month period.
