Santander ends American Express partnership in Brazil

Santander and American Express have announced the end of their partnership for credit card issuance in Brazil. This transition will affect Gold, Platinum, and Centurion cards. Gold and Platinum cards will be blocked for new purchases starting in September, while the high-income Centurion card will be canceled in October.

Customers will be notified of specific dates and offered replacement products tailored to their profiles. Accumulated points through the Esfera program will remain available for redemption, and existing installment purchases will continue to be processed normally until fully paid. To facilitate the transition, Santander may offer incentives such as temporary annual fee waivers, adjusted limits, or extra points for affected clients.

Simultaneously, Santander is expanding its high-end offerings by launching the Visa Infinite Private. Unlike standard premium cards, this product is not available through open application; instead, it is distributed via invitation to selected, eligible clients. This move is part of an increasing competition within the ultra-high-net-worth segment as major card networks develop new tiers above traditional premium categories.
