Santander to cancel American Express cards for Brazilian customers

Banco Santander Brazil has begun sending notifications that American Express cards issued by the bank will be cancelled within five business days. The decision follows an internal analysis and expands on earlier expectations that only cards nearing expiration would not be renewed. Customers have received SMS and app messages indicating the upcoming termination.

Santander says installment purchases will continue to be charged until fully paid and points earned will remain available, but the physical card will cease to function after the notice period. The bank has not confirmed whether the cancellation applies to all American Express cards or only a portion of its portfolio, and it advises affected customers to contact the bank promptly to explore alternatives.
