Santarém hosts gastronomy festival, book launch, and historical tours

Santarém is hosting several cultural and regional events. The municipality will participate in the 45th National Gastronomy Festival at Casa do Campino on October 24. Representing Viana do Castelo, the initiative aims to promote local producers and Vinho Verde wines, specifically the Loureiro variety, through tastings and guided sessions.

On the same day, journalist José Goulão will present his book, ‘Genocídio na Terra Santa’, at the Sociedade Recreativa Operária. The event, which includes a discussion with Carlos Almeida of the Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East, will be followed by a traditional Palestinian dinner.

Additionally, historian José Raimundo Noras recently led a guided tour through Santarém’s historic center focused on the city's educational history. The tour, titled ‘Regresso às Escolas, Santarém Cidade Educadora’, highlighted former schools and influential local figures. A subsequent tour regarding traditional commerce is scheduled for November 21.
