Vox files lawsuit following violent protests against Santiago Abascal in Menorca

The Spanish political party Vox has filed a lawsuit against the Government Delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, following violent incidents during a campaign event in Mahón, Menorca. The party alleges that the government failed to provide sufficient security measures and allowed an anti-fascist protest to take place in close proximity to Santiago Abascal’s meeting, despite known risks.

During the unrest, protesters reportedly blocked exits, threw objects at police, and targeted Abascal’s vehicle, which was struck by a chair. Vox is seeking investigations into both the organizers of the mobilization and the individuals responsible for the violent acts, citing potential electoral crimes and administrative malfeasance.

In contrast to the tension in Menorca, Abascal held a subsequent campaign event in Ibiza that was reported as peaceful, attended by thousands. During his speeches in Ibiza and Palma, Abascal criticized the central government for failing to protect his party and emphasized his platform's focus on migration and national identity.
