Vox party political controversies in Spain
Overview
The Spanish political party Vox has faced several incidents involving internal conduct and external opposition. In the Parliament of Asturias, deputy Gonzalo Centeno used profanity toward Parliament President Juan Cofiño during a heated debate regarding human rights accusations. The President characterized the outburst as a possible “fruit of the excitement of the moment,” while Vox described the language as a “colloquial expression resulting from a heated debate.”
Later, during a campaign event in Menorca, violent protests targeted party leader Santiago Abascal. Protesters reportedly blocked exits and struck Abascal’s vehicle with a chair. In response, Vox filed a lawsuit against the Government Delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, alleging a failure to provide sufficient security. While the Menorca event involved unrest, subsequent campaign events in Ibiza and Palma were reported as peaceful.
