Santiago del Estero pilgrims celebrate Mama Antula

More than 2,500 pilgrims participated in the ninth annual pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Mama Antula in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. The procession took place on Saturday, August 29, following the historic Camino Real from the Almirante Brown neighborhood in the capital city to Villa Silípica.

Under the theme ‘Junto a Mama Antula, peregrinos de la paz’ (Together with Mama Antula, pilgrims of peace), the group included families, youth, and elderly participants. Along the route, local chapels served as rest and prayer stations for the various contingents joining the march.

The event holds particular significance this year as it coincides with the tenth anniversary of the beatification of María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, known as Mama Antula, which occurred in 2016. Former governor Claudia Ledesma Abdala de Zamora was among those in attendance, noting the profound religious and cultural importance of the tradition to the province.
