Mama Antula beatification anniversary commemorations

Overview

Communities in Santiago del Estero are observing the tenth anniversary of the beatification of María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, known as Mama Antula.

Local celebrations in the Mama Antula neighborhood of La Banda included scheduled masses to honor her legacy. Concurrently, residents in Barrio del Real held religious services and floral offerings, which also served as a farewell for a local pastor being transferred to Málaga.

On August 29, the commemorations expanded to a large-scale religious event as more than 2,500 pilgrims participated in the ninth annual pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Mama Antula. Following the Camino Real from the Almirante Brown neighborhood to Villa Silípica, the procession was held under the theme ‘Junto a Mama Antula, peregrinos de la paz’ (Together with Mama Antula, pilgrims of peace).
