Santiago receives Olympic torch ahead of 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

Mayor Ulises Rodríguez formally accepted the Olympic torch for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games at a ceremony in the municipal palace of Santiago, Dominican Republic. The event marked the start of the countdown to the Games, which open on July 24, 2026, and highlighted Santiago’s role as the primary sub‑venue, set to host multiple sports competitions.

Officials from the Dominican Olympic Committee, including president Garibaldy Bautista, praised the city’s logistical preparations and commemorated the centennial of the Games and the 40th anniversary of Santiago’s own hosting in 1986. The torch procession featured the mascot “Colí” and involved local civil, municipal, and military leaders.
