Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza church to reopen in Rome

The Church of Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza in Rome is scheduled to reopen to the public on October 27, 2026, following an extensive restoration project. The work was managed by the Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma and funded through PNRR Caput Mundi funds.

The church is a key component of the Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza complex, which houses the State Archives of Rome. The reopening is a collaborative effort involving the General Directorate of Archives, the Diocese of Rome, and the Touring Club Italiano. Under the ‘Aperti per voi’ project, volunteers from the Touring Club will assist in maintaining continuous openings from Monday to Friday to guide visitors through the courtyard and the church.

Recognized as a masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture by Francesco Borromini, the site is noted for its revolutionary use of geometry and light.
