Mexico tops medal table at 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo

Mexico’s delegation has cemented its dominance at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, reaching 119 medals – 44 gold, 43 silver and 32 bronze – and leading the overall medal table ahead of Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela and the host Dominican Republic. The tally, reported on 28 July, pushed Mexico past the 100‑medal mark and gave the country a comfortable 14‑gold advantage over second‑placed Colombia.

Key Mexican successes include Byanca Rodríguez’s gold in the women’s 100 m breaststroke (1:08.60), Yareli Acevedo’s victory in the women’s omnium cycling event with 179 points, and the mixed‑team recurve archery gold won by Matías Grande and Alejandra Valencia, who beat Colombia 6‑0. Rowing star Aylin Ibarra added three gold medals in double lightweight, double women and the women’s four‑boat (W4X) events.

Other nations also recorded notable results: the Dominican Republic accumulated a total of 49 medals (10 gold, 10 silver, 29 bronze), while Venezuela finished second in the chess medal table with two golds, one silver and two bronzes. Cuba defeated Venezuela 3‑0 in men’s indoor volleyball, and Puerto Rico captured gold in the men’s 100 m breaststroke. The Games continue with a wide range of sports across the Caribbean basin.
