Latin American communities report public service and infrastructure crises

Various communities across Latin America are reporting significant failures in public services and infrastructure. In the Dominican Republic, residents in Santo Domingo Este are facing severe traffic congestion, prompting meetings between local councilors and INTRANT. Additionally, environmentalists have denounced the destruction of a protected area near the Las Américas highway, where a sinkhole part of the ‘Ojo de las Américas’ aquifer is reportedly being filled with debris. Other Dominican municipalities, such as Dajabón and Tenares, struggle with waste management and sanitation issues.

In Peru, residents of Tarapoto have reported insecurity and alleged extortion attempts in their neighborhood, while in Huando, citizens are demanding better water services and road repairs. In Venezuela, leaders in Ureña are calling for a water emergency declaration due to prolonged service outages. Meanwhile, in Panama, residents of Atalaya are protesting against frequent power outages, lack of potable water, and poor road conditions, seeking intervention from the Veraguas Governorate.

In Argentina, local officials have expressed concerns regarding the lack of practical information in a proposed water emergency project.
