The Instituto Nacional de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (INTRANT) confirmed that on Friday, 31 July, sections of the Malecón in Santo Domingo and the Avenida España in Santo Domingo Este will be closed from 09:00 to 11:00. The interruptions are to allow a route‑recognition run for cyclists competing in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled for 2026. Drivers were urged to plan ahead, use alternate streets such as Rómulo Betancourt, México, Mella, Simón Bolívar, Las Américas, 26 de Enero, Estados Unidos and Mirador del Este, and check real‑time updates on navigation apps like Waze.

Transport union leader Juan Hubieres also blamed INTRANT director Milton Morrison and the Confederación Nacional de Organizaciones de Transporte (Conatra) for any potential violence among transport operators, citing illegal “linderos” on public‑transport routes and past incidents that resulted in injuries. He warned President Luis Abinader that the officials could be held responsible if confrontations occur.

The coordinated traffic measures aim to ensure safe and efficient mobility for both the sporting event and everyday commuters during the brief closure period.
