Santo Tomé officials face investigations over theft and misconduct

Authorities in Santo Tomé, Argentina, are addressing allegations of misconduct and theft involving judicial and police personnel.

Reports indicate a potential cover-up within the local Instruction Prosecutor's Office following the disappearance of cash and mobile phones held in judicial custody. It is alleged that a maintenance worker was forced to resign in exchange for not facing criminal charges, a move intended to avoid public scrutiny of internal control failures.

In response to investigations into property crimes and the potential involvement of law enforcement, the Corrientes Police have implemented leadership changes at the Regional Unit V. New directors have been appointed, and four officers have been preventively removed from their duties while the General Directorate of Internal Affairs conducts administrative proceedings. The Ministry of Security has stated it will not tolerate conduct that violates the law or police principles.
