Criminal investigations and misconduct in Santo Tomé

In Santo Tomé, Corrientes, law enforcement operations and internal investigations have highlighted issues regarding criminal networks and institutional misconduct.

Initial police activity focused on dismantling a criminal network specializing in vehicle theft, cloning, and document forgery. A raid in the Barrio 28 Viviendas neighborhood led to the seizure of several vehicles, including a car and motorcycles, which featured altered chassis numbers and falsified documentation. The investigation follows a series of seizures in the region and has impacted citizens who discovered they had purchased vehicles through the fraudulent scheme.

Subsequent developments shifted toward allegations of misconduct and theft within the local judicial and police systems. Investigations were launched following the disappearance of cash and mobile phones held in judicial custody, amid allegations of a potential cover-up within the Instruction Prosecutor’s Office. In response to these property crimes and suspected law enforcement involvement, the Corrientes Police implemented leadership changes at Regional Unit V and removed four officers from their duties pending administrative proceedings by the General Directorate of Internal Affairs.
