Santorini outlines new tourism management strategies for 2027–2028
The Municipality of Thera is advancing new strategic initiatives for Santorini's tourism sector. At the GNTO – Santorini Tourism Forum, officials reviewed the 2024–2026 strategy, which included international marketing campaigns, airline partnerships, and the implementation of a cruise arrival management system.
For the 2027–2028 period, the municipality plans to shift from simple promotion to integrated destination management. Key priorities include developing cultural and walking routes, improving local signage, utilizing digital tools, and establishing a formal destination management organization. The goal is to extend the tourist season and ensure economic benefits are more widely distributed throughout the local community.
Additionally, the Municipality of Thera represented Greece at the World Island Fair 2026 in Yeosu, South Korea. The event focused on the shared challenges of island communities, such as climate change and sustainable development. The fair resulted in a joint declaration proposing that the United Nations establish an International Day of Islands. The participation also aimed to strengthen tourism ties and improve air connectivity with the South Korean market.
