Santos Cerdán launches memoir on 142‑day prison term

Former PSOE organization secretary Santos Cerdán, who spent 142 days in the Soto del Real prison from 30 June 2025 to 19 November 2025, has published a memoir titled *La Caída: poder, relato y destrucción en la era del juicio político*. The book, released on Tuesday, recounts his incarceration, describing the first night in the cell as “a slap” – “La primera noche en la celda no es una experiencia. Es una bofetada.” Cerdán details daily life, visits from his wife, sister and brother‑in‑law, the cost of phone calls, and incidents such as a failed attempt by other inmates to sell photos of him for up to €50,000. He notes that his release was announced on television and broadcast live, and that prison officials praised his attitude during confinement. The memoir offers a personal perspective on the political scandal that led to his custody, including his testimony before the Supreme Court over alleged contract‑rigging in the Ministry of Transport.
